Topic:Hedge fund trader dismisses blogging

Lex Van Dam a multi-million dollar trader recently dismissed blogging as being immaterial for those who would like to invest in the financial markets.
Mr Lex Van Dam is the man behind a BBC reality TV trading contest which commenced on 12 Th January 2009. He is offering each of the show’s eight participants six hundred and eighty two thousand pounds. The show will be aired for duration of three weeks.

The contestants were randomly picked from the public and underwent training for two weeks. They then went on to try and make money for two months last summer. At this time the world markets were being rocked by the world wide recession which affected multinationals like A.I.G. Contestant who made big losses were fired. They used up to date financial information from financial information giants namely Thomson Reuters and Bloomberg.

Mr Van Dam is of the opinion that the most relevant information can be obtained from many other sources and that there is too much information at our disposal. He also believes that financial web logs do not provide the most appropriate information for his requirements.

Mr Devin Wenig a Thomson Reuters senior executive is of a contrary opinion. According to him, bloggers apply regulations and views that are divergent and can this do things differently. He also said that numerous experts believe that both financial information firms and blogs offer appropriate information.

Mr Wenig however agreed that Reuter’s terminals provide outdated information compared to more current financial websites. He told Hedge Magazine that his company was endeavouring to make improvements on the way they present the information. He also believes that his firm’s future role will be that of furnishing context and organising market information.

With the show Million Dollar Traders Mr Van Dam intends to discourage traders as he believes that most of them should not be in the business.

Selecting the right layout for your MySpace

January 10th, 2009

Selecting the right layout for your MySpace page can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. You want your page to reflect your personality, but the number of choices out there is staggering.

Free MySpace layouts can be found on many web sites. Just Google the terms “free myspace layouts” and you will see hundreds of sites that offer free layouts. Peruse the sites for layouts that interest you. Their offerings are often categorized for easy browsing. You will find kids’ layouts, romantic layouts, funny layouts, sports layouts, and layouts in many other categories.

When researching the layouts, consider a few things. Does the layout match your personality? Is the font clear? Do the colors on the site go together (for example, does the color of the font blend into the background so that it is difficult to read, or are your eyes easily able to read the text)? Are there any parts of the design that you do not like? Chance are that you will not be able to remove any parts of the design, so choose one that only includes elements that you like.

Installing your new layout on your MySpace page is easy. On the page where you found the layout, there will be a box with “code” it in (it looks like a few lines of gibberish). Copy that code, return to your MySpace “Edit my Profile” page, and paste the code in the box. Then view your profile. All of the information you entered into your profile is still there, but it is now in the new layout.

You can change your layout as many times as you want, using the same process. Now go out there and find your perfect layout. Happy hunting!

Advertising agencies, much like the products they

January 10th, 2009

Advertising agencies, much like the products they promote, come and go. So while it might seem strange to some long-timers that CDP has shut its doors, even the article mentions that the feel of the firm had all the makings of a Shakesperean tragedy.

I spent some time working as a copywriter at a microscopicly tiny advertising agency, and we were forever discussings the supposed goings-ons at larger firms. The largest, DDB, was always on our mind and we had a hate/envy complex about the people who worked there and the work they produced.

The horrible thing about advertising, fashion, any creative field really is that the bigger, better, higher you climb – the happier everyone else in the world is to see you fall. Before reading this I had never even heard of CDP, but upon learning that it was a the largest, oldest British agency, a snarky little part of me was smugly happy. But don’t worry, somewhere in the world is another agency setting up to be the biggest, best and most dynamic shop out there. Perhaps our great grandchildren will be raising a glass to the demise of Crispin Porter some time around the end of the century.

What used to be priceless military technology

January 10th, 2009

What used to be priceless military technology is now something you might find in a rental car, wristwatch or even in your cell phone. Anti-theft auto tracking systems use them, heavy construction equipment may have them and most boat owners have at least one. Anytime you want to know your exact location, the GPS tracking device becomes an indispensable tool. Feature rich GPS units are now more affordable then ever for the average person but how do you know which one is right for you?
Let’s look at few tips to consider prior to buying your next GPS unit.
First, what is GPS tracking?
GPS or (Global Positioning System) technology was initially designed to be used by the U.S. military, and is still used by the U.S. Defense Department. A system of satellites sends signals to a GPS system device which then calculates the current position by latitude and longitude. Once the GPS device knows its own position, it can help the user determine direction and distance to other locations.
GPS tracking devices can be used to navigate your car through traffic day-to-day or vehicle fleet tracking. Not only can a driver use an auto GPS system for directions, but the corporate office knows where each vehicle is. GPS Systems can be used while outdoors for activities such as hiking or camping.
Do you love fishing but get frustrated trying to find the fish? With a GPS fish finder, which uses both GPS technology and sonar you’ll know exactly where to find those fish. GPS technology is also being used as a way to track your pet with a GPS accessory such as a GPS enabled pet collar.
Another use for GPS is as a child tracking device with a receiver in a child’s cell phone or wristwatch to ensure their safety. Real time vehicle tracking systems can be used in a teenager’s vehicle in order to know where they are and at what speed they are driving. Covert GPS tracking could also be used to keep track of someone who tends to ‘roam’ but is not capable enough to find there way back such as someone suffering with Alzheimer’s disease.
As GPS technology improves and the range of GPS Products and Accessories grow, it’s uses will increase. Some of the more trusted manufactures are Garman GPS, Magellan, Pharos, Cobra and TomTom

WhereverfixedwidthCSSlayout

January 10th, 2009

Wherever fixed width CSS layout is used, the CSS must be rendered by supported internet web browsers, so that a fully-styled version of the page is presented to the user. Thanks to the imminent release of Internet Explorer 8, CSS layout has becoming something everybody can learn to do—no chewing gum or makeshift explosives required. CSS layout is powerful enough, though, that many seemingly grid-like layouts can be emulated using some amount of clever tricks and hacks.

If CSS layout is one of the tools in your Web design arsenal, the sites you build will benefit from the advantages presented here. Another nice thing about a pure CSS layout is that it will be much easier to update the design in the future, I’ll just need to swap out the CSS file and some images.

CSS actually includes a feature that works just like HTML tables: CSS tables. CSS not only gives you greater control over the look of the border (solid, embossed, dotted, or dashed, thick or thin, red or green, etc. CSS simply has more style properties, that can be applied to more page elements, than HTML has ever offered.

How do you go about building a full CSS layout. The short, focused lessons presented in Sams Teach Yourself CSS in 10 Minutes will help you quickly understand CSS and how to immediately apply it to your work. The method, based on positioning colored boxes and testing across a range of browsers, can be used to build a wide range of full-CSS layouts.

January 10th, 2009

Myspace is a wonderful social networking tool available for everyone with the time and energy to maintain their profile.

Myspace can be a great way for a business or independent artist to attract new customers and increase their sales. One important thing to do is use Myspace’s technology to maximize the visual appeal of your profile. You can create a lot of customizations that echo your personal preference. The most important thing to remember, however, is the loading time and readability of your page. You may be temped to add a great deal of flashy, animated graphics and widgets to your page, but just remember what you are trying to tell your visitors…if they can’t find the information they’re looking for, they may not come back! If you’re simply maintaining a social profile to keep in touch with friends, the same applies. If your friends have a hard time reading your blog or status updates, they might be less likely to keep up to date with your page!
